Grateful for This Blue Door

Image
I am grateful for this blue door. While the business has changed over the years, this is the door to my first doctor's office. At 3 months old my mom was informed that I had a major hip issue and needed to wear leg braces. She was devastated at the time, and I can only imagine the fearful thoughts she had. The doctor reassured her and told her that if she followed the directions completely I would have an excellent chance of walking well after 9 months old. Sure enough, he was right. According to my mom I walked at 9 months. It is scary to think about what could have been. I am extremely grateful that she chose to follow these guidelines. She had a lot of courage and I am sure there were days that it was not easy. I realized this needed to be one of my doors when we were out to dinner last night in my hometown. I paused by this door thinking about how different my life could be. As a 36-time marathon runner, and aspiring triathlete I am eternally grateful for the medical care I h

I Read Something That Transformed my Thinking

I Read Something That Transformed my Thinking Chew on It, and Spit out the bones When I consume content, I realize that information meets me where I am. I used to get frustrated when something did not completely align with my thinking. Now, I realize that it is about taking what resonates and leaving the rest. Dave’s article does an excellent job of asking readers to define if providing grace is helpful.  It Starts With Grace By Dr. Dave Schmittou is a well-written blog post.   Breaking Through the 3:49:59 Wall in a Marathon!  I have done it once… and believe I can do it again! Numbers are important, but they are just numbers.  A sub 3:50 is a Boston Qualifer for 2025, but it was never about Boston. It was about me. It was about my personal best. a 3:49:07 is an all-time personal best and that is what I am chasing. I believe in me… and my ability to make this happen. That is what matters. A few people have told me I have it within me but what matters most is that I work forward, follow a plan and believe that I have had the power all along. Steps forward: Print out calendar pages and figure out where to pick up training for Marquette.  Focus on Three key runs a week.  Create a plan for strength training, swimming and biking.  Look at Hansen’s plan for 3:50 and 3:45.  Figure out what went well last marathon and what can be improved. Place goal and visual on my bathroom mirror. Visualize and write goals based on this goal. Realize that there is not a race w
